A U.S. Marshal provides protection for the federal courts. They are responsible for protecting witnesses as well as the federal judiciary, transporting federal prisoners and guarding assets which have been involved in a crime and have been seized. U.S. Marshals are also responsible for the capture of any escaped prisoners or fugitives. Depending on where they are based, a U.S. Marshall can receive a cost of living allowance of up to 25% of their salary. Over time there is the potential to earn a six figure income with promotion.
